PARKVILLE, Mo. (KCTV) — During February, NKC Health and four local coffee shops have teamed up to raise awareness for heart health. It’s called ‘Love your heart’.
February marks American Heart Month, a time to highlight cardiovascular disease and raise awareness about the signs to watch for.
In North Kansas City, the health system NKC Health is brewing up awareness one cup of coffee at a time. It is partnering with these four coffee shops to get you thinking about your heart:
When you visit any of these coffee shops, your coffee sleeve is pink with ‘Love your heart’ on one side and on the other a QR code with facts about heart disease and stroke, as well as how to get screened.

“This is really close to me already. This is something that I want awareness to be out there for. Because especially with women, I know and understand that the symptoms of a heart attack are much different than men and they are harder to realize,” said Parkville Coffee Owner, Kristin Helling.
Helling shared that her mother-in-law passed away from a sudden heart attack when she was just 60 years old.
She felt it was important to join NKC Health in this campagin.
“Whenever you come and get a coffee you will be walking away with all of these resources right in your hand and they can scan it and you can go to the website and see all that you need to know,” said Helling.
She is hopeful many can take away new tips and learn about how to protect their heart.
Here is why the cold weather can strain your heart
“Pay attention to yourself, and don’t ignore any signs that you may have and seek help and advocate for yourself,” said Helling.
The four coffee shops will be serving sips with the Love your heart sleeves all February long.
