Newcastle-PSG Champions League Game Could Provide Massive Financial Boost

Newcastle United could secure a financial boost of up to £14 million by beating Paris Saint-Germain next week and advancing directly to the Champions League last 16, according to a report by Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.

Hope reported that progressing straight to the knockout phase “would be worth as much as £14m,” underlining the scale of what is at stake in Paris—outside of the on-field implications.

“One way to bolster the coffers is by beating Paris Saint-Germain next week and advancing straight to the Champions League last 16,” Hope wrote, adding that the figure “emphasises the importance of the game in Paris.”

A win would guarantee Newcastle a top-eight finish in the league phase, removing the need for an additional playoff round. In any case, by beating PSV in their latest UCL game, the Magpies already clinched a place in the next phase.

Hope detailed how the prize money would be accumulated.

“Participating in the last-16 knockout round earns a club at least £9.5m in prize money,” Hope wrote. “A win against PSG would also earn £1.8m plus the difference in prize money for the improved final league position.”

Hope also pointed to the broader benefit of direct qualification by finishing inside the top eight with a win against PSG.

“The incentive to win is clear,” Hope wrote. “The removal of two extra games from the schedule.”
