Power: Origins casts Chicago: Med alum
Dominic Rains, known for his role as Dr. Crockett Marcel on NBC’s Chicago Med, has joined the cast of Starz’s Power: Origins, according to an exclusive report by Deadline. He will appear in a recurring role as Detective Fred Drexel, a character involved in an intense investigation following a controversial incident within the NYPD. The series is currently filming in New York and New Jersey.
Power: Origins follows the early years of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan. They are now played by Spence Moore II and Charlie Mann. The original roles were portrayed by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora. Mekai Curtis continues as Kanan Stark, a role he originated in Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
The cast includes Jason Dirden as Traymont Stinson and Jennifer Ferrin as Kate Egan. Lizzy DeClement plays nurse Jill Wexler, and Lenny Platt appears as finance bro Lenny Seidell. Armani Gabriel joins as J-Boogs, one of Ghost and Tommy’s trusted corner boys. Everett Osborne portrays NY Jets tight end Omay Moreau.
Kelly McCreary plays Officer Melanie Rivers. Hill Harper appears as Detective Burns, and Damon Gupton as Detective Glover Archibald. Nadia Dajani returns as Teresa Boselli, and Tonya Pinkins plays Grandma Charlayne.
Starz describes the prequel as “a fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the ‘Power’ franchise,” following the rise of three young men determined to become legends in New York City. Rains’ character will work closely with those played by McCreary, Harper, and Gupton.
Sascha Penn serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Courtney Kemp, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Gary Lennon, Kendra Chapman, Mark Canton, Chris Selak, Kevin Fox, and Pete Chatmon. Lionsgate Television produces the series for Starz. Power: Origins is the franchise’s only installment currently in production as it transitions from past to present timeline stories.
