With its first full-scale coffee shop now open and an in-house roasting operation in full swing, Naughty Coffee is on its best behavior in the heart of Downtown Miami.

Best known for converted vintage Volkswagen van coffee bars parked inside two Miami-area shopping malls, the company’s roastery-cafe ambitions came to life this fall at a busy Downtown corner near NE 1st St and NE 2nd Ave. The shop sits just steps from the First Street Metromover station and two blocks from Bayfront Park.

Entering through a corner-facing doorway, customers pass a Loring S7 Nighthawk roaster visible behind glass. Two steel coffee-bar islands follow, with one dedicated to manual brewing of rare and competition-caliber single-origin coffees, and another supporting a Slayer Steam LP espresso machine paired with multiple Mahlkönig grinders.

“[We’re] putting a big focus on hand brews in a city that is mainly consuming ice milk beverages, but surprisingly, it is working and we hardly can keep up with how many hand brews we do in a day,” Naughty Coffee Co-Founder Milan Blagojevic told Daily Coffee News. “It’s something we did not expect.”

A glass pastry case and point-of-sale occupy the remainder of the service row on an island clad in cool, light-sage square tiles. Light gray tiled floors, white walls and minimalist overhead light bars complete the scene inside the bright corner shop.

The cool palette is warmed by a natural-wood communal table and condiment bar, plus wooden beverage trays that frame Turkish ceramics, carefully built drinks with house-made syrups and food made in an on-site kitchen.

“Our kitchen became a big part of our location,” said Blagojevic. “We treat every dish with the same approach we do with our coffee.”

With its bold geometry and minimalist yet functional layout, the room nods subtly to the Brutalist interiors common in parts of Eastern Europe, reflecting the personal roots of Naughty’s married co-founders Blagojevic and Liudmyla Zaletska, who were born in Serbia and Ukraine, respectively.

The couple launched Naughty Coffee in Florida in 2020 as a mobile bar built into a vintage Volkswagen camper, serving street corners and events before landing a permanent spot inside Aventura Mall.

The company later worked with German design firm AENY on its second VW concept, which opened inside Dadeland Mall in March 2023, and it enlisted AENY again for the flagship cafe’s design.

“We love their simplistic but warm and beautiful designs,” said Blagojevic. “We always had a vision of how the space will look, but they really put it into another dimension through their approach and experience.”

After several years serving Counter Culture Coffee roasts, Naughty transitioned into roasting its own coffees in August 2025. Green coffee suppliers include Costa Rica specialist Hacienda La Minita and Colombian producers Carlos Guamanga and Sebastian Ramirez. Naughty does not shy away from post-harvest processing techniques such as extended fermentations or co-fermentations.

“We try to keep our approach simple: Find amazing coffees, try them, enjoy them and tell the story the coffee wants to say to our customers,” said Blagojevic. “We won’t blend coffees — one farm, one origin and one flavor at a time — and we hope you like it.”

For now, those roasting efforts will remain focused on supplying and serving Naughty’s three existing bars, with wholesale and additional locations left for another day.

Said Blagojevic, “Before we let our mind slip into the future, we want to enjoy this project to the fullest, since it was our dream for almost a decade.”

Naughty Coffee is located at 101 NE 2nd Ave. in Miami.
