(FOX 5/KUSI) — Multiple people have been arrested in connection to drug-smuggling attempts in the form of laced mail, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office (SDSO) announced in a news release on Tuesday.
On Nov. 12, 2025, deputies at the Sheriff’s Mail Processing Center intercepted three envelopes addressed to someone in custody at a detention facility.

Authorities started an investigation after they learned each envelope contained greeting cards that were saturated with methamphetamine. Investigators determined the drug-laced cards were meant for Kevin Ball, 33, although they were not addressed to him.

Ajshanee Clariday, also 33, was identified as the sender. Clariday and Ball allegedly conspired on the names used on the envelopes, the mailing timelines, drug sourcing and payment methods, SDSO stated in the news release.
Detectives arrested Clariday on Dec. 12 at San Diego County Probation for supply of controlled substances to an incarcerated person, bringing drugs into a jail and criminal conspiracy.
Ball, who was already in custody on an unrelated case, was arrested on Jan. 29 on the same charges.
Another individual, 55-year-old Fredrick Perez, was identified as an accomplice.
On Jan. 27, authorities served a search warrant at a home in the 1000 block of Woodlawn Avenue in Chula Vista and arrested Perez on similar charges as Clariday and Ball.
Two other people — Daniel Gracia, 34, and Luis Rios, 44 — were also arrested at the home. The former was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant and the latter was arrested on drug-related charges.
SDSO said sending controlled substances into a jail is a felony that could lead to up to six years in prison.
