Now there are a lot of things you can download on your smartphone to make it smarter. There are also a lot of things you can download that might not affect the intelligence of your phone, but could cause others to question your mental acumen.

And yes, I am talking about games. Games are a popular download category for Apple, Android, and anything else that you can plug into a wall. Apple has a list of the most downloaded games you can peruse, but we’re not playing games in this article. We are here to strictly waste time.

The one at the top of the list is the one that gets a lot of chinwag in social circles, on the news, and I bet if Oprah were still on, she would be talking about it too. That app is OpenAI’s ChatGPT. That’s the app that is either going to save humanity or kill us all. I can only imagine the hardships of college professors and students attempting to negotiate the landscape of computer-generated thoughts, ideas, and creativity.

The next most downloaded app is a time waster for sure, it’s the Threads App. If you’re not familiar with it, then you probably are not a fan of short-form videos that randomly pop up out of context.

Number three on the list was Google; that one is at least useful since it can quickly answer your queries on a wide range of topics. Following Google is the OG when it comes to short-form videos, TikTok. Even with presidential threats of a boycott and ban, people in the U.S. still felt the need to randomly see people break into dances and critique fast-food drive-throughs
The remainder of the top ten apps according to Apple were WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, and Google’s AI app Gemini.
