Milan Fashion Week: Giorgio Armani’s show paid tribute to the late visionary as the brand turns 50

The Giorgio Armani spring/summer 2026 show was supposed to be a celebration of the brand’s 50th anniversary. Following the designer’s passing on September 4, however, the event turned into a moving tribute to Mr Armani, as he was known to fashion insiders.
Long-time friends of the house such as Cate Blanchett and Richard Gere, who famously wore Armani in his breakout role in American Gigolo (1980), graced the occasion, paying homage to the late designer alongside fellow A-listers such as Glenn Close, Spike Lee and Zhang Ziyi.

The show was held at Milan’s Pinacoteca di Brera, one of the city’s most prestigious museums, where the exhibition “Giorgio Armani: Milano, Per Amore” (Giorgio Armani: Milan, For Love) is currently under way.

Open to the public and on view until January 11, 2026, the exhibition features more than 120 looks, beautifully displayed among paintings and sculptures dating back to the Middle Ages.

After the show, guests were able to explore the galleries and admire Armani’s soft tailoring in muted colours and his show-stopping red carpet gowns.

The brand’s spring/summer 2026 collection, the last one designed by Mr Armani, was a homage to two places close to his heart: Milan, where he lived just a short walk away from the Pinacoteca di Brera; and Pantelleria, the island in southern Italy where he spent his summers.

Accompanied by live piano music, the models – including some who have been historically linked to the house – walked along the courtyard of the museum, which was lit up by a sea of candles.
