Mike Flanagan Movie Adds Star Wars Actor & Emmy Winner to Cast

One of the stars of The Mandalorian has joined the cast of the new Exorcist movie.

Mike Flanagan is directing a new Exorcist movie that is currently scheduled to be released next year by Universal Pictures. The movie will not be a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer; rather, it will be a “fresh and bold” new take on the horror classic.

Who has joined the cast of The Exorcist?

Per The Hollywood Reporter, it has now been announced that John Leguizamo has joined the cast of the new Exorcist movie. The article mentions that he “may” be playing an antagonist in the film, though that doesn’t appear to be set in stone as plot details remain under wraps.

Leguizamo voiced the character Gor Koresh in an episode of the Star Wars show The Mandalorian, while he won the Outstanding Performance in a Variety Special Primetime Emmy Award for John Leguizamo: Freak in 1999.

He voices Sid the Sloth in the Ice Age franchise and has starred in a number of other well-known movies, including 1990’s Die Hard 2, 1993’s Super Mario Bros., 1996’s Romeo + Juliet, 1997’s Spawn, 2001’s Moulin Rogue!, 2011’s The Lincoln Lawyer, 2013’s Kick-Ass 2, 2014’s John Wick, 2021’s Encanto, 2024’s Bob Trevino Likes It, and more. He’ll soon be seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which releases this summer.

In addition to Leguizamo, the cast of Flanagan’s Exorcist includes Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, and Sasha Calle. The script was written by Flanagan, who is known for making TV shows and movies such as Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Life of Chuck, and more.

Production on the movie begins next week. The film currently has a March 12, 2027, release date.
