A Netflix original animated movie featuring the voice of Michael B. Jordan is scheduled to arrive on the platform very soon. Co-produced by Toy Story director John Lasseter, the movie explores a magical story in which a mammal and a rival bird swap bodies.
Swapped arrives on Netflix in May
Swapped‘s Netflix streaming date is Friday, May 1, 2026. The streamer announced the release date in the official trailer earlier this month. The trailer opened with a personal message from Oscar-winning actor Michael B. Jordan and his niece and nephews.
The animated movie takes place in a small woodland called The Valley, a place for wild and unique creatures inspired by real-life animals. At the center of the story are two rivals, a tiny mammal named Ollie and a majestic bird named Ivy. During their scuffle, the two accidentally fall on a mysterious pod that swaps their bodies. Desperate to reverse the effects, the two embark on a magical journey while saving the creatures of the woodland from a major catastrophe.
Netflix’s Swapped voice cast features Jordan as Ollie, Juno Temple as Ivy, Tracy Morgan as Boogle, Cedric the Entertainer as Caloo, Justina Machado as Calli, Ambika Mod as Violet, Lolly Adefope as Lily, and Táta Vega as Ollie’s grandma, among others.
Nathan Greno, who co-directed Disney’s Tangled, helmed the movie. He co-wrote the script with John Whittington, Adam Karp, Christian Magalhaes, and Robert Snow. Originally, Greno was developing the animated movie for Apple TV.
After Skydance Animation signed a multi-year deal with Netflix in 2023, the project moved to the streamer. During the early stages, the movie was reportedly titled Powerless, which was later renamed to Pookoo. Finally, the studio changed the title to Swapped in 2025.
Emmy-winning composer Siddhartha Khosla produced the movie’s score. He is known for his work on popular projects such as Only Murders in the Building, Paradise, This Is Us, Runaways, and The Royals.
