Massachusetts snow forecast: Up to 4 inches expected this weekend

Feb. 6-7 storm

A winter storm will bring multiple inches of snow to Massachusetts between Friday and Saturday, forecasters said.

The storm is not expected to be anywhere near as severe as last week’s storm. But it is forecast to coat the entire state with between an inch and four inches of snow by Saturday night, before “dangerous” cold temperatures sweep in, the National Weather Service said.

The agency expects 1-2 inches of snow across much of Central and Western Massachusetts. Greater Boston and Cape Cod could see 3-4 inches, it said.

Weather service forecasters also warned that some areas could see localized bands of heavier snow.

“This is a situation where snowfall amounts can vary greatly over short distances,” the agency said Friday.

Snow showers may continue over Cape Cod through Saturday night, the weather service said.

Bitterly cold Arctic air will arrive Saturday night alongside gusty winds, forecasters warned.

Parts of Western Massachusetts could experience wind chills 30 degrees below zero or colder, the weather service said.

In other areas of the state, the agency forecasts wind chills 10 to 20 degrees below zero.

Forecasters expect the bitter cold to linger into the start of next week.
