Mariah Carey Responds to Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sanchez Feud Rumors After Wedding

The Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez wedding was the social event of the year, without a doubt. It was no intimate wedding; it was a who’s who of celebrity guests, even if a lot of them have been heavily criticized for attending in the first place. Ironically, even those who didn’t attend had something to say about it.

Mariah Carey is one of those people. The singer did not attend the wedding of the Amazon founder and his new bride, former journalist Sánchez, and when asked about it, she was as blunt as the singer’s iconic “I don’t know her” about Jennifer Lopez that has now become a meme.

“I wasn’t there,” was all she said about it when paparazzi questioned her. And when the photographer asked if she’d even received an invite, Carey was having none of it. “Oh, don’t turn this into that,” she responded. Not an answer to the question, but it still makes it clear that Carey wants nothing to do with this narrative.

Carey’s response follows a few celebrities who have had something to say about the wedding, which was attended by the Kardashians, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Oprah, among others. Charlize Theron, for example, poked fun at the event, saying, “I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding,” while hosting the fifth annual Block Party for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.

“But that’s OK because they suck and we’re cool,” she added. But it was not all in good fun, as the actress went on to talk about the current political climate, making it clear she disagreed with the lavish celebration. “Here in Los Angeles, in the US and across the globe, we’re moving backwards fast.” She said. “Immigration policy has destroyed the lives of families, not criminals; women’s rights are becoming less and less every day; queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased; and gender-based violence is on the rise.” Pretty clear message.

Theron wasn’t the only one. Katie Couric made a dig at Lauren Sánchez’s wedding dress in a since-deleted Instagram comment that reportedly read, “Welcome to the eighties — when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled. Apparently tacky is back.” Rosie O’Donnell also criticized the wedding in general in a Substack post. “The BEZOS wedding, it turned my stomach. Seeing all these billionaires gathering in the gross excess of it all,” O’Donnell wrote. “Is Oprah friends with Jeff Bezos? Really — how is that possible? He treats his employees with disdain. By any metric he is not a nice man.”

And celebrities like Mia Farrow and Olivia Munn made their opinion known too, albeit more subtly. The two took advantage of the publicity around the wedding to praise Bezos’ ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, for her philanthropy in the years since her divorce. Pretty obvious dig, too, even if they didn’t name any names.

Mariah Carey, meanwhile, isn’t saying anything bad. She just doesn’t want to be involved in the narrative.
