Margot Robbie & Bradley Cooper’s Ocean’s Eleven Prequel Loses Director

The planned Ocean’s Eleven prequel that is set to star Margot Robbie and Bradley has lost its director, with Lee Isaac Chung departing the upcoming movie.

What happened with the Ocean’s Eleven prequel’s director?

According to a new report from Deadline, Chung left the project due to what Warner Bros. says is an “amicable split due to creative differences.” It’s unclear exactly what happened that led to his departure, but the Minari and Twisters director will no longer be helming the heist prequel.

“Lee Isaac is a singular filmmaking talent whose vision and partnership have been invaluable to Warner Bros. and LuckyChap throughout this journey,” read a joint statement released by Warner Bros. and LuckyChap, the production banner co-founded by Margot Robbie (via Deadline). “Our experience with him has only deepened our enthusiasm to collaborate on future projects together.”

What exactly the “creative differences” that Chung and Warner Bros. faced is unclear as of now. Much about the prequel remains mysterious, although it had been reported that the story will reportedly take place in 1960s Europe. Ryan Gosling was previously attached to star opposite Robbie, but was replaced by Cooper in the time since. Benicio del Toro is also said to be involved in the film in a villainous role.

Alongside starring in it, the movie will also be produced by Robbie’s LuckyChap production company. Production was expected to begin sometime this year, although it’s unknown what delays the movie will face while looking for a new director and also navigating Paramount Skydance’s planned acquisition of Warner Bros.

In the early 2000s, Soderbergh directed the remake of Ocean’s Eleven, which also featured a star-studded ensemble led by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon. The franchise currently has a combined worldwide gross of over $1 billion at the box office. A separate sequel film, Ocean’s 14, is also said to be in development.
