JANUARY IS HEALTHY WEIGHT MANAGEMENT AWARENESS MONTH. WE’RE MORE THAN HALFWAY THROUGH THIS MONTH, AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE’RE HELPING YOU GET 2025 GOING ON THE RIGHT FOOT. SO JOINING ME LIVE THIS MORNING IS GAIL SMITH. SHE’S A DIETITIAN AT THE ORLANDO HEALTH WEIGHT LOSS AND BARIATRIC SURGERY INSTITUTE. GAIL GREAT TO SEE YOU. GOOD TO SEE YOU TOO. THANKS FOR HAVING ME. AND WE WANT TO THANK ORLANDO HEALTH FOR, YOU KNOW, KEEPING US HEALTHY HERE IN 2025. AND ESPECIALLY, YOU KNOW, AS WE TALK ABOUT HEALTHY WEIGHT MANAGEMENT AWARENESS MONTH. SO WE’RE ABOUT THREE WEEKS INTO THE NEW YEAR. WE HAD THOSE BIG RESOLUTIONS JANUARY 1ST, GAIL GET OUT THERE. AND NOW A LOT OF US HAVE HAVE FALLEN OFF THE WAGON. WHAT DO WE NEED TO TO KNOW AS WE GET TO THIS POINT IN THAT JOURNEY? GET BACK ON? OKAY. IT’S NEVER TOO LATE. TODAY IS A NEW DAY, RIGHT? RIGHT. SO IF WE’VE MESSED UP, WE SAID WE WERE GOING TO EAT HEALTHY ALL OF JANUARY. OR PEOPLE DO. WHAT IS IT? THEY’RE NOT DRINKING IN JANUARY? I FORGET DRY JANUARY. THANK YOU. AND THEY MADE A MISTAKE, YOU KNOW, HAD HAD A NIGHT OUT AND CLINKED SOME CHAMPAGNE. WE CAN GET BACK ON TRACK HERE. YOU CAN. IT’S STILL TIME YOU GOT 11 MORE MONTHS, RIGHT? RIGHT, RIGHT. AND THAT’S WHAT WE WANT TO LOOK FORWARD TO, IS WHAT’S AHEAD. SO LET’S TALK ABOUT THAT RESOLUTION AND HOW WE KEEP OURSELVES ON TRACK. YOU BROUGHT IN SOME GREAT ILLUSTRATIONS AND THIS IS GOING TO HELP US WITH WITH THAT HEALTHIER EATING AND MAYBE EVEN A LITTLE BIT OF PORTION CONTROL. SO I’M LOOKING AT THIS. THESE SEEM TO BE THE SAME MEALS HERE. RIGHT? RIGHT. THIS IS MORE FOR THE PERSON THAT’S NOT ON A WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATION. THEY JUST WANT TO BE HEALTHIER. WHAT CAN I EAT? MAYBE THEY DON’T HAVE THE BARIATRIC STOMACH LIKE THIS PLATE HAS THE SMALLER PORTIONS, ESPECIALLY FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY PATIENTS AND WEIGHT LOSS. AND LET’S TALK ABOUT THAT BECAUSE WE DO HEAR A LOT RIGHT NOW ABOUT THESE WEIGHT LOSS DRUGS AND AND WEIGHT LOSS SURGERIES. SO IF SOMEONE HAS HAD ONE OF THESE PROCEDURES, THE SURGERIES, THIS IS REALLY ALL THAT THEIR STOMACH IS GOING TO LET THEM EAT. YES. AT ONE TIME. SO THEY HAVE TO LEARN TO EAT 5 TO 6 SMALLER 4 OUNCE TO 5 OUNCE PORTIONS PER DAY. YEAH, ALWAYS A SOURCE OF PROTEIN. I’VE GOT YOUR CHICKEN HERE AND THEN SOME VEGGIES THAT ARE LOWER IN STARCH. THE HEALTHY LETTUCES, TOMATOES OR BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, GREEN BEANS AND THEN A LITTLE BIT OF A STARCH CHOICE, WHICH COULD BE A FRUIT. IT COULD BE A STARCHY VEGETABLE LIKE THESE POTATOES. AND THAT’S ALWAYS PROBABLY EVEN A LITTLE BIT SMALLER THAN THAT. NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT, FOR THOSE OF US JUST TRYING TO SAY WE WANT TO STAY ON TRACK, HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR US TO MAYBE MEASURE OUT SOME PORTIONS TO THINK ABOUT PORTION CONTROL? YES. SO YOU WANT TO MEASURE PROBABLY FOUR OUNCES IS ABOUT A HALF CUP. AND THAT’S WHAT MOST PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT THE PROTEIN, THAT’S WHAT WE NEED IN OUR PROTEIN. ABOUT FOUR OUNCES OF MAYBE CHICKEN. EXACTLY. WHICH WOULD BE TO TWO OUNCES. OR MAYBE IF YOU’RE TALLER, LARGER, YOUNGER YOU MAY NEED 4 TO 6OZ, MAYBE MORE. AND THEN THINGS LIKE THE BROCCOLI, SOME OF THESE VEGGIES THAT’S GOING TO HELP US FEEL FULL, FULL FIBER GIVE YOU FULLNESS. AGAIN. THE PROTEIN GIVES YOU SATIETY TOO, OKAY. BUT ALSO THE FIBER IN THE VEGETABLES AS WELL. AND GAIL THE LAST THING HERE, IF SOMEBODY IS SAYING, I’VE TRIED MY BEST, THIS IS FOR ME. I MAY BE CONSIDERING SURGERY. WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW? VERY, VERY, YOU KNOW, EARLY ON INTO THAT JOURNEY OF THINKING ABOUT MEDICAL INTERVENTION, DEFINITELY MEET WITH YOUR SURGEON, YOUR PHYSICIAN, YOUR PHYSICIAN, AND ASK THEM WHAT MIGHT BE THE BEST FOR YOU, OR GET IN TOUCH WITH OUR WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMS. WE HAVE PROGRAMS FOR JUST REGULAR WEIGHT LOSS, MEDICATION WEIGHT LOSS, AND THE BARIATRIC SURGERY. BUT THEY’LL CHOOSE THE BEST ONE FOR YOU, ALL RIGHT? OR HELP YOU CHOOSE THE BEST ONE. LET YOU KNOW THE DETAILS. RIGHT. WELL, AND THAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS KIND OF UNDERSTANDING THE WHOLE PROCESS BECAUSE IT DOES TO ALL OF US SEEM A LITTLE BIT OVERWHELMING. YES. THANKS TO YOU, GAIL SMITH AND ORLANDO HEALT
