A 40-year-old man was hospitalized Nov. 12 after he was injured in a police shooting near Madison Street and 2nd Avenue.
According to the Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner, officers responded to reports of a man armed with a shotgun around 12:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Railroad Boulevard in Eugene. Skinner said seven or eight people called 911, and reported the man was “wielding the shotgun, walking in and out of traffic (and) pointing the shotgun at individuals,” which is considered the crime of menacing.
At 12:50 p.m., Eugene police said officers responded to the area in “emergency mode.” Skinner said the man walked eastbound on Railroad Boulevard as officers hailed him and asked him to stop. He continued and rounded the corner southbound on Madison Street.
An officer confronted and shot the man on Madison Street near the intersection with Second Avenue. Skinner said he didn’t know how many times the man was shot, but he remained conscious and officers approached him with a body shield and disarmed him.
Skinner said emergency medical aid was provided by officers on scene and Eugene Springfield Fire medical personnel responded once the scene was deemed safe.

Eugene police officials said the man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. A shotgun was recovered from the scene.
The Lane County Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team has assumed the primary investigative role into the use of force.
