President Emmanuel Macron has announced a ban on mobile phones in French high schools.
The measure, he said, is intended to tackle the risks associated with screen addiction and to reinforce the idea that school should be a place for learning and social interaction.
Macron stressed that school is “where you learn and it’s where you communicate”, underlining the government’s concern about rising screen time among teenagers.
The new rules will take effect from the start of the next school year.
Details of how the ban will be implemented have not yet been outlined, but the announcement signals a significant shift in policy, extending restrictions that already apply in primary and middle schools.
