Macao offers free bus transfers for international visitors from Hong Kong International Airport

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is partnering with the Hong Kong-Macao bus service operator to launch free direct bus coach transfers from the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport to Macao for international visitors (from beyond the Greater China region) who arrive in Hong Kong.

The initiative follows similar cross-border transport offers introduced in 2024 and 2025. Starting from 20 January until 31 December 2026, the special offer aims to attract more international visitors for an extended journey to Macao. This service adds to the convenience of travellers as they do not need to go through immigration.

Macau is located on the south coast of China, across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. A Portuguese territory until 1999, it reflects a mix of cultural influences. Its giant casinos and malls have earned it the nickname, “Las Vegas of Asia.”

Free direct coach service aims to increase visitor arrivals to Macao

Three international travellers hold free coach tickets and promotional leaflets at an airport terminal, preparing for a direct bus transfer to Macao.

The offer is launched to increase the number of international visitors to Macao and boost visitor arrivals from diverse markets, which will in turn foster Hong Kong-Macao twin-destination and multi-destination tourism.

Upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport, eligible international visitors can complete the required formalities at the designated counter in the restricted area to obtain free one-way coach tickets for direct transfers from the SkyPier Terminal to Macao via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge which cost US$18.8 billion to build, was opened in 2018 and It is both the longest sea crossing as well as the longest open-sea fixed link in the world. It consists of three bridges, an undersea tunnel and four undersea tunnels.

A journey typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes to travel the 55 km distance between the ports of Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macau. This 24-hour bridge system has cut travel time between these cities from over three hours down to roughly 40-45 minutes.

Spotlight special offer on various channels

MGTO and the service operator will roll out a series of online and offline promotions about the special offer via social media and in collaboration with airlines and travel agencies in different destinations.
