Landover, Md. — Following his eighth touchdown of the season, Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown stood up in the end zone at Northwest Stadium and did what’s become known as the “Trump Dance.”
St. Brown’s score helped the Lions beat the Washington Commanders, 44-22, on Sunday. President Donald Trump was in attendance.
“I heard Trump was going to be at the game. I don’t know how many times the president is going to be at the game, so just decided to have some fun and his dance,” St. Brown said afterward.
Trump was shown on the video board twice, once with two minutes remaining in the first half and another time during halftime. Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who took over play calling for the first time this season, said he didn’t notice Trump, but described the president being there as “cool.”
“When I’m in this place, I don’t even know what’s going on around me half the time,” Campbell said. “It was either (the) defense is out there or I’m trying to get the plays ready (for the offense), so I didn’t even know. But that’s cool. That’s cool, now that I know he was definitely here. You’re talking about a president of the United States. I mean, that’s a big deal.”
Air Force One flew over the stadium early in the first quarter.
“I thought the plane, that was freaking cool. Whatever side of politics you’re on, that was cool to see that thing that low,” quarterback Jared Goff said.
