Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese’s next collaboration continues to take shape as another high-profile actor boards the project. The upcoming feature, which already boasts a stacked ensemble, adds a performer known for playing one of Sherlock Holmes’ most recognizable adversaries.
Jared Harris joins cast of What Happens At Night
Jared Harris has joined the cast of What Happens at Night, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, according to Deadline. Martin Scorsese directs the film for Apple Original Films in partnership with Studiocanal. Patricia Clarkson and Mads Mikkelsen also star in the project.
Scorsese directs and produces under his Sikelia Productions banner. Patrick Marber wrote the screenplay, adapting Peter Cameron’s novel of the same name. The production begins in Prague and will also shoot in New York City during the final weeks.
The film is described as “a dream-like story of a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby.” The couple “check into a cavernous, largely deserted hotel where they encounter an enigmatic cast of characters including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman and a charismatic faith healer.” The description adds, “Nothing is quite as it seems in this strange, frozen world. As the couple struggle to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about themselves and the life they’ve built together.“
The project reunites Scorsese, DiCaprio and Apple after the 10-time Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon. Lawrence previously worked with Apple Original Films on Causeway and Bread & Roses. She will also star in and produce the upcoming feature The Wives.
Harris’ film credits include I Shot Andy Warhol, The Last of the Mohicans, Natural Born Killers, Igby Goes Down and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. His television credits include Mad Men, The Crown and The Terror. He also earned a Golden Globe nomination for Chernobyl.
