Neil Young is following through on his October pledge to pull his music from Amazon, citing his opposition to the platform’s owner and his political affiliations, Rolling Stone reported.
In a recent post on Neil Young Archives, the musician confirmed his music will remain unavailable on Amazon as long as Jeff Bezos owns the company. Young, 80, cited Bezos’ support of President Donald Trump, the administration’s international policies and support of ICE.
“Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos, a billionaire backer of the president,” Young wrote. “The president’s international policies and his support of ICE make it impossible for me to ignore his actions.”
According to the outlet, Young encouraged fans to find his music through record stores or alternative digital services, acknowledging the decision hurts his record company in the short term.
“My position is unfortunately harmful to my record company in the short term, but I think the message I am sending is important and clear,” he wrote. “Thanks for buying music locally and from independent digital services.”
In another show of support, Young has gifted free access to his entire archives to Greenland residents in response to President Donald Trump’s threats against the country.
His complete catalog is available on the Neil Young Archives platform, which regularly requires a subscription. The catalog includes live concerts, studio outtakes and concert films, the report said.
“I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government,” Young wrote to Greenland residents. “All the music I made during the last 62 years is yours to hear.”
