Kim Kardashian has the internet in a tizzy over the latest release from her Skims shapewear line.
The reality star launched the Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap — an item that’s designed to apparently shape the jawline — on Tuesday, and it’s already sold out.
Described on the company’s website as its “first-ever face innovation,” the wrap, which comes in colors clay or cocoa, is made with “signature sculpting fabric and infused with collagen yarns for ultra-soft jaw support.”
Though its description says the face wraps are infused with the collagen yarns, the website says the product’s fabric contains “81% Polyamide and 19% Elastane.”
In a video shared to her Instagram story on Tuesday, Kardashian noted that the apparatus that social media users have compared to a “medieval torture device for your face” is designed to “wear at night or just around the house.”
“Ok guys, so you know we’ve been doing shapewear for a really long time,” Kardashin said, according to BuzzFeed. “And now we are gonna offer amazing face shapewear, which is just such a necessity. This material is actually infused with collagen yarns, and it’s just this amazing jaw support.”
The Skims founder added: “It just snatches your little chinny chin chin … it’s super comfortable to wear at night or just around the house.”
While Kardashian beamed over the new product, Instagram users accused the star of “profiting off [people’s] insecurities” under a post advertising the face wraps on the Skims Instagram page.
“This embarrassing for skims. Truly embarrassing. This isn’t empowering for women, this is trying to profit from your insecurities,” someone commented.
Another said, “Gentle reminder: they’re targeting and profiting off your insecurities with stuff like this.”
“SKIMS: Making women feel bad about themselves since 2019,” someone else said.
A separate user mocked the product, commenting, “Heaven forbid we let people age gracefully.”
“I’m not a doctor but I’m also not a dumbass and I’m failing to understand how this is going to help anyone’s chin lmao,” another person added.
Other users argued that the product could help people with “jaw issues like TMJ” by keeping the jaw “in place overnight.”
Reps for Skims didn’t immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment about whether there are any medical benefits to the wraps.
Meanwhile on X, formerly Twitter, users couldn’t help but make hilarious comparisons over the face wraps.
