CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is known for quite a few things: Heisman Trophy winner; national champion; fossil enthusiast. But over the years, he’s become more of a fashionista.
Since his time with the Bengals, Burrow has increasingly become more expressive in his fashion sense. From establishing the OG signature “Joe Burrow sunglasses” – a rimless rectangular shade, sometimes with a translucent lens – to a buzz and bleach haircut out of boredom.
He even elevated his fashion career by walking the runway at the Vogue World fashion show in Paris, followed by a red carpet appearance at the 2025 Met Gala.
Now, he’s featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s Sports & Style talking about what influences his style.
“My sense of style varies day-to-day,” Burrow told Sports Illustrated’s Nick Remsen for the cover of the Sports and Style issue. “I wake up, feel the color and find the fit that matches what I’m looking for.”
One of Burrow’s stylists, Kyle Smith, told Remsen that “Joe loves color in a way that I don’t.”
“He doesn’t necessarily pay attention to what’s trending or what everybody else is wearing, and that’s what makes [his style] so unique. He is always doing his own thing. I think a big part of the Joe fandom is an appreciation of his fashion. Or, at least, his individuality expressed through fashion,” Smith said.
Over the last couple of years, Burrow has leaned into a persona he built through his fashion decisions and interviews with the media. That’s how he coined his few nicknames, including Joe Brrr and Joe Shiesty.
“Joe always looks great. He has tons of confidence and is up for trying new things—that seems natural to who he is. It was wonderful to see him at the Met Gala this year in Gucci. Blue suited him,” Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour told Remsen.
Confidence wasn’t always something he carried though, but fashion is something he was around from a young age.
“My mom was in fashion when I was little,” Burrow said in the interview. “So I was around it. I was always pretty particular about what I wore, like when we’d be school shopping. I didn’t know anything, I just liked how the clothes felt and looked. I struggled [with confidence] when I was little. I was pretty uncomfortable in my own skin, and I think I was quiet and socially awkward, so I did express myself with colors and clothes.”
Robin Burrow was a fashion buyer during her son’s early childhood, Remsen reports, and she still sends fashionable gifts to him on his birthday or during the holidays.

As far as creating his own fashion brand, it’s not completely out of the picture for the star quarterback.
“Maybe, when I have a little more time on my hands, I’ll have a brand where I work with multiple designers,” Burrow says. “Down the road, that would be cool.”
Currently, Burrow partners with the fashion brands Alo Yoga, Nike, Fanatics and Cartier.
