Despite being among the most popular Hollywood couples of their time, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner did not discuss much about their split a decade ago. The 53-year-old actress recently opened up about the divorce and its impact on her. She even revealed what the “hardest” thing about the split was.
Jennifer Garner discusses the impact of divorce with Ben Affleck
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were together for a decade. They even share three children, Samuel, Fin, and Violet. This means that when their marriage fell apart, it was not just two people separating, but a family breaking apart.
Garner spoke about this difficult period in a new interview with Marie Claire UK. “You have to be smart about what you can and can’t handle, and I could not handle what was out there,” Garner recalled, “But what was out there was not what was hard. The fact of it is what was hard. The actual breaking up of a family was what was hard. Losing a true partnership and friendship is what was hard.”
Amidst all that was happening, “the hardest thing” for Garner became dodging the massive amount of attention on her split with Affleck. “Not hard in the grand scheme of what is hard in the world, but tricky for me and tricky for my family,” she explained in the new interview.
To counter this, she started avoiding tabloids as much as possible, while also straying away herself from the topic. “I make a big, concerted effort to see my people as much as I can, because that’s what matters,” she added, That’s where your resilience is: it’s in your relationships and in the people who carry you through.”
In the interview, she also gave a shoutout to her kids, who navigated the difficult period with grace.
As of now, things remain cordial between Garner and Affleck. The Argo star has had good things to say about his ex-wife. They were also together for Thanksgiving this year, and continue being co-parents to their children.
