James Gunn Gives Reassuring Update on Paradise Lost TV Show

James Gunn has offered a reassuring update regarding the Paradise Lost TV show.

Paradise Lost is one of several DCU TV shows currently in development. This project was initially announced in January 2023; however, there haven’t been too many updates about the show since then, and it does not have a release date at this time.

What did James Gunn say about the Paradise Lost show?

Recently, a batch of rumors popped up online suggesting that the Paradise Lost TV show had been canceled.

On Threads, however, Gunn debunked this and confirmed the show is still in development. “Definitely not,” he said when asked if it was true the show was being shelved. “Jesus, I go on Threads for the first time in weeks, and it’s just one insanely wrong thing after the other. What is going on?”

Gunn offered a brief update about Paradise Lost when speaking to Entertainment Weekly last year. He confirmed that the show was still happening, though development was moving slowly.

“Paradise Lost is moving along,” he said. It’s slow-moving, but it’s moving. And, yeah, I really love that project a lot.”

When asked if the show is directly connected to the DCU’s plans for Wonder Woman, Gunn explained, “Yes. Well, yes and no. Wonder Woman’s a separate thing. We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is being written right now. So it’s different. I mean, not different. They’re connected. She’s from f—ing Themyscira, so…”

The Wonder Woman DCU movie also does not have a release date from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures at this time, meaning it’s currently unclear which project will make it to the finish line first.

Gunn initially described Paradise Lost when it was announced in 2023 as, “We’re doing a television series called Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is the story of Paradise Island, usually known as Themyscira, which is the birthplace of Wonder Woman. It’s almost like Game of Thrones with Westeros, but with all the inhabitants of Paradise Island.”
