Jack Black is back in the spotlight, promoting his upcoming movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. During his press tour, he also looked back on a moment that wasn’t so fun. A scary one where he got a head injury on the set of Nacho Libre.
Jack Black recalls he suffered a head injury during production of Nacho Libre
Jack Black revealed on Entertainment Tonight that he injured his head while filming Nacho Libre. It happened during a wrestling scene. He went for a stunt, and it went horribly wrong. He said, “I played a wrestler in a movie called Nacho Libre. And we really did some real wrestling, and I really mixed it up in the ring.”
He continued, “And I dove out of the ring at one point and landed on some wrestlers, and I hit my head on a metal chair, and I had stitches in my eyebrow.” Then it gets even more surreal, as Black shared, “Luckily, there was a really good plastic surgeon in Oaxaca, Mexico, when that went down.”
Black added, “And she came straight from a grand ball. She’s like in a ball gown. She came in, she was like, ¿Qué pasó? No hay problema. No hay problema. And I laid down, and she sewed up my wounds, and the rest is history. I survived.”
Released back in 2006, Nacho Libre tells the story of Ignacio, a cook. He secretly becomes a wrestler to help orphans. The movie follows his journey inside and outside the ring. Over time, it turned into a cult favorite. It grossed $99 million worldwide on a $35 million budget.
Black is currently busy promoting The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. He stars alongside Chris Pratt, Benny Safdie, Glen Powell, Brie Larson, and Anya Taylor-Joy. It is set to release in theaters on April 1.
