Ike Barinholtz, who just earned his first Emmy nomination for his role in The Studio, is in talks to play Elon Musk in an upcoming AI movie from Luca Guadagnino, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Amazon MGM is behind Artificial, which has Andrew Garfield and Anora breakout Yura Borisov set to star. When the project was first reported, the movie was said to be based on the artificial intelligence company OpenAI in 2023 that saw CEO Sam Altman fired and rehired in a matter of days. Musk was the co-founder of OpenAI, but after differing views of how to handle the business of the company, he publicly split from Altman and the company, entering into legal disputes.

Heyday Films’ David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford are set to produce. Simon Rich wrote the script and will also produce, with Jennifer Fox also in talks to produce.

Guadagnino is set to debut his latest with Amazon MGM, the Julia Roberts-starring After the Hunt, at the Venice Film Festival. He previously worked with the studio on Challengers, Bones & All and Suspiria.

Barinholtz can currently be seen in Hollywood satire The Studio from Seth Rogen on AppleTV+. He is repped by UTA, Artists First and Yorn Levine.
