The South China Morning Post has garnered 76 awards at the 46th edition of the Best of News Design Creative Competition, with an infographic illustrating the difficult living conditions of foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong winning two gold and three silver medals.

The Society for News Design announced the result on Friday, with the Post’s graphics team securing three gold, seven silver and 20 bronze awards in the competition.

The Post’s 30 medals placed it second behind The New York Times among participating news outlets.

Post Editor-in-Chief Tammy Tam congratulated the winners for their “impressive medal haul”.

“Every year our talented artists and designers compete against some of the best professionals in the news business and come out as big winners,” she said.

“Their hard work, talent and accomplishments are an inspiration and morale booster during these difficult operating times amid fast-changing technological challenges for the media industry, and reinforce our commitment to world-class journalism.”

Infographic designer Davies Surya’s Bedtime stories of Hong Kong’s helpers received two gold awards in the categories of “multiple illustrations (single subject)” and “regional/local infographics”. Surya’s visual story detailed the living conditions of three foreign domestic helpers through data, photos and videos.
