Hong Kong police officer tricked into working at Cambodian scam farm

Hong Kong authorities have contacted a local policeman who managed to flee from a scam farm in Cambodia, with the force planning to dispatch officers to investigate and help him.

The government confirmed the case on Friday, hours after a viral post on the online forum LIHKG said a constable serving at Ma On Shan Police Station had called his office to seek help, giving his name and identity number as proof.

A government spokesman said that police had confirmed the man was in Cambodia, while the Immigration Department had contacted the Chinese foreign ministry’s arm in the city and the country’s embassy in Phnom Penh.

“The Immigration Department will continue to keep in close contact with the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong, the embassy and the family of the individual involved, proactively follow up on the incident and provide feasible help in accordance with the family’s wishes,” the spokesman said.

He said police would send officers to Cambodia to investigate and aid the man.
