Hong Kong lifestyle medicine summit to champion holistic vision for health

As Hong Kong grapples with a rise in chronic diseases like cardiovascular issues, cancer and diabetes, a growing frustration is emerging: the conventional medical model, focused on quick diagnosis and prescriptive medication, often falls short of addressing the causes of these long-term illnesses.

Determined to bridge this gap, local health professionals Tricia Yap and Denise Tam have organised a summit to champion lifestyle medicine, a holistic vision dedicated to nurturing health in the grey areas overlooked by standard care.

Taking place at Soho House Hong Kong in Sheung Wan on October 23 and 24, the Lifestyle Medicine Summit Asia aims to help professionals rethink their approach to healthspan and disease prevention.

At the core of the summit is a definition of longevity built on four actionable pillars: nutrition, movement, recovery and stress management.

The line-up of experts includes geneticist Dr Denise Furness, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner Dr Sarah Chan, physiologist Glen Joe and naturopath Dr Ben Brown.

“We live in a world where, when you have a symptom, you very quickly have a diagnosis and drug medication to treat it,” says Yap, an accredited strength and functional medicine health coach. “But there’s got to be something else in between that.”
