Hong Kong’s cross-border high-speed rail network inaugurated services to 16 new mainland Chinese cities. With the addition of these routes, the overall network of the MTR Corporation has reached 110 destinations across 19 provinces from West Kowloon Station.

Hong Kong’s high-speed rail expands reach: Key details
The new destinations include Wuxi, Chaoshan, Miluodong, Fuzhou, Quanzhounan, Nanjing, Taizhou, Hefei and Yangzhou, among others. To mark the launch of the train services, the MTR collaborated with several travel agencies to organise an inaugural tour that attracted over 400 passengers.
Further, MTR launched a limited-time “buy one, get one free” promotion for West Kowloon-Futian tickets. The promotional offer, available from January 27, can be accessed via various third-party partners such as Klook, HopeGoo, and Trip.com.
Aimed at attracting cross-border day-trippers, including shoppers and working professionals, the promotional offer slashes the ticket costs in half. In addition, tickets for designated routes will be offered at a discount of HKD 20 per ticket. The attractive fares offered by the Hong Kong high-speed rail network are expected to encourage travellers to opt for train travel instead of short-haul flights. The associated cost savings and lowered carbon emissions are likely to gently nudge people into opting for trains instead of flights.
According to a report on RTHK, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, said at the launch ceremony, “Besides the additional stations, there will also be more sleeper trains. The stops along the routes will become more diversified, including not just places with great food nearby, but also cultural and historical cities.”
Needless to say, the new services are expected to drive up tourism, as well as enhance Hong Kong’s connectivity with mainland China.
