Some 300 passengers and crew members on board a high-speed ferry escaped injury after the vessel hit the pier in Sheung Wan as it was about to set off on the voyage from Hong Kong to Macau on Saturday, police said.
The incident took place shortly after 3.30pm at the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan. It involved a TurboJet high-speed ferry Universal MK 2005.
Images circulating online showed that the bow of the vessel was slightly damaged and subsequently covered with a large cloth.
“A passenger on board called police and said the ferry hit the pier when it was just about to set sail to Macau,” a police spokesman said.
“Initial information [we received] is that there were 289 passengers and crew members on board, and there was no report of injury,” the spokesman added.
The Fire Services Department also deployed three ambulances to stand by.
