Here are 10 facts you should know about the Music City Loop

Elon Musk’s The Boring Company is currently digging the Music City Loop tunnel near the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville after months of planning, permit approvals and pushback.

FOX 17 News has been covering the tunnel coming to Nashville since Governor Bill Lee announced the news in July 2025.

We are breaking down 10 facts you should know about the underground tunnel:

  1. The Music City Loop is set to go from the Nashville International Airport to downtown Nashville.
  2. The Boring Company announced a second route from the West End to the riverfront on Broadway.
  3. The Music City loop will operate under state roads to avoid Metro approvals.
  4. Passengers will travel underground in Teslas in a rideshare-style format.
  5. The tunnel is privately funded, with a promise of no cost to taxpayers.
  6. The Boring Company’s “Vegas Loop” operates under its convention center and has plans to expand.

In February, Gov. Lee announced the approvals of state and federal approvals for the tunneling to begin.

The Boring Company was already in place and FOX 17 News got an exclusive first look at the Boring Machine, known as the Prufrock, when it arrived in Nashville. Another Prufrock is set to arrive in Nashville this Spring.

Even though the tunnel is funded with a promise to no taxpayers, FOX 17 News is following a bill at the state level that would create a tunnel oversight board that would be funded by taxpayer money.

Additionally, The Boring Company is open to tapping into the Choose How You Move transit plan while also working with private businesses for around 20 tunnel stops.
