God of War TV Show Cast Finds Its Atreus Actor

Amazon MGM Studios has welcomed another key cast member to its highly anticipated live-action TV adaptation of PlayStation’s popular God of War video game series. Pre-production on the Prime Video show is currently underway in Vancouver.

“The show follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human,” reads the official logline.

Who is playing Atreus in God of War?

Chucky and Long Bright River actor Callum Vinson has been tapped for one of the leading roles in Prime Video’s God of War series. He is set to portray the role of Kratos’ ten-year-old son, Atreus. Besides the upcoming action fantasy show, Vinson will also next be seen in Peacock’s Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake, where he’ll be playing the young Jason Voorhees.

According to Atreus’ character description, “he grew up in a remote forest cabin, isolated from the rest of the world and raised almost entirely by his mother, Faye. He is an accomplished archer, has an affinity for animals, and is intensely curious about what lies beyond the confines of his forest home. After his mother’s death, Atreus is left with a cold, distant father whom he barely knows and who knows little about him in return. Nonetheless, Atreus yearns for his father’s approval and is desperate to prove he is strong enough to survive in a harsh and dangerous world.”

The Norse mythology-themed series will be written and executive-produced by showrunner Ronald D. Moore. The new cast members will be joining previously announced stars Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy) as Kratos, Max Parker (Boots) as Heimdall, Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride) as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance) as Thor, Teresa Palmer (A Discovery of Witches) as Sif, Alastair Duncan (Taggart) as Mimir, Jeff Gulka (The X-Files) as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn (The Witcher) as Brok. Emmy winner Frederick E.O. Toye has signed on to direct the first two episodes.

Executive producers are Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis. It is a production by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Ahead of its debut, it has also been confirmed that the adaptation is already set to return for a second season.
