Global EV battery market share in Jan-Oct 2025: CATL 38.1%, BYD 16.9%

  • CATL and BYD collectively installed 513.1 GWh of EV batteries in January-October 2025, accounting for 55.0 percent of the global total.
  • South Korea’s LG Energy Solution maintained its third-place position with a 9.3 percent share in January-October.

Global EV battery market share in Jan-Oct 2025: CATL 38.1%, BYD 16.9%

CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750) saw its global electric vehicle (EV) battery market share increase in January-October compared to the January-September period, while BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) experienced a decline.

Global EV battery installations totaled 933.5 GWh from January to October, a 35.2 percent increase from 690.7 GWh during the same period last year, according to data released today by South Korean market research firm SNE Research.

CATL’s EV battery installations reached 355.2 GWh from January to October, up 36.6 percent from 260 GWh during the same period last year.

The Chinese battery giant maintained its global leadership with a 38.1 percent market share during this period, remaining the only supplier exceeding 30 percent market share.

This share is higher than its 37.6 percent share in January-October 2024 and also exceeds its 36.6 percent share in January-September 2025.

BYD’s EV battery installations came in at 157.9 GWh from January to October, a 36.1 percent increase from 116 GWh during the same period last year.

The company ranked second with a 16.9 percent share from January to October, higher than its 16.8 percent share in the same period of 2024 but lower than its 17.9 percent share in the January-September period of 2025.

LG Energy Solution installed 86.5 GWh of power batteries from January to October, a 12.8 percent year-on-year increase.

The South Korean company maintained third place with a 9.3 percent market share during this period, down from 11.1 percent in the same period last year and also below the 9.8 percent recorded in the first nine months of 2025.

China’s CALB (HKG: 3931) ranked fourth with 44.3 GWh installed capacity and a 4.7 percent market share.

Gotion High-tech surpassed South Korea’s SK On to claim fifth place with a 4.1 percent share. Gotion held a 3.7 percent share in January-September, ranking seventh.

SK On ranked sixth with a 4.0 percent share during January-October, having held fifth place with a 4.2 percent share in January-September.

Japan’s Panasonic, South Korea’s Samsung SDI, China’s Eve Energy, and Svolt Energy ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth respectively, with January-October shares of 3.8 percent, 2.7 percent, 2.6 percent, and 2.5 percent.

Panasonic ranked sixth with a 4.1 percent share in the January-September period.

CATL’s market share in October increased by 0.19 percentage points compared to September, while BYD’s share grew by 0.22 percentage points.
