General Hospital’s Kate Mansi Reveals How Stepfather Saved Her Life

General Hospital star Kate Mansi recently opened up about the life-saving surgery that led to her endometriosis diagnosis. She credited her stepfather for the urgent decision that ended up saving her life. The actress remains dedicated to spreading awareness about endometriosis.

Kate Mansi’s stepfather saved her life by performing emergency surgery

General Hospital’s Kate Mansi spoke out about her endometriosis diagnosis in honor of March’s Endometriosis Awareness Month. This reproductive condition causes the uterine tissue to grow outside of the uterus, causing cramping and chronic pain.

Mansi reached a point where only a very important intervention helped get her out safely.

She recalled during her conversation with PEOPLE about how doctors initially did not diagnose her with endometriosis. It had been going on for a couple days, and doctors just kept dismissing it,” the actress said.

While doctors did not reach the right conclusion, Mansi’s condition kept deteriorating. “It got unbearable that I ended up driving myself to the emergency room that day,” she recalled after an especially difficult day.

Thankfully, her stepfather was an OB-GYN. He took matters into his own hands when doctors jumped to different conclusions at the hospital. “My stepdad was so frustrated — and because he’s my stepfather, so it’s not a blood relation — he scrubbed in himself and was like, ‘I’m not waiting for an oncologist. I’m gonna do the surgery, or she’s not gonna make it.’ And he did a surgery that ended up saving my life,” she said, “I was in the worst pain of my life, and it turns out, I had an ovarian cyst rupturing, and I was working through it for days.”

She further explained, “The ovarian cyst coincidentally was sitting on top of a blood vessel. So when it burst, it hit the blood vessel, and then it leaked a liter and a half of blood into my abdomen…All the blood had coagulated together into this 11-centimeter mass, cutting off blood and oxygen. He obviously took it out, but then he found all this endometriotic tissue.”

This “scary” surgery led to her endometriosis diagnosis. And her stepfather ended up playing a key role in saving her life.

Following this incident, Mansi has researched the topic well and continues to maintain some lifestyle changes to help her cope better.
