General Hospital viewers were left frustrated this week after a highly anticipated episode was unexpectedly pulled from the schedule. The long-running ABC soap had just ended on a major cliffhanger, and fans were ready for answers. Instead, the episode was delayed at the last minute because of a White House press conference. This sparked an immediate and vocal reaction across social media from loyal viewers who felt their daily ritual had been disrupted.
General Hospital fans respond to the show being preempted
The news came just before the show was set to air, when ABC executive Nathan Varni tweeted that today’s episode would be interrupted by live coverage. At first, it wasn’t known how much of the episode would actually make it to air. A few minutes later, Varni clarified that the full episode wouldn’t air at all and would instead be pushed to the following day.
“Hi everyone — today’s episode of #GH is being interrupted by a press conference, which is beyond our control. We don’t yet have a duration, but we’re monitoring closely and will share updates as soon as possible. Thanks so much for your patience!” Varni wrote.
Fans did not take the news lightly. Viewers quickly flooded social media platforms like X, Instagram, and TikTok to vent their disappointment. One fan summed up the mood by writing, “So annoying! Why can’t they wait until the evening news?” Another added, “Anybody wanting to see news coverage could have flipped the channel.”
Fans’ frustration only grew because Monday’s episode ended on a massive cliffhanger. After Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) was found not guilty in her attempted murder trial, what should have been a victory celebration took a dark twist. In the final moments, she seemingly plunged a syringe into Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) neck, knocking him out.
Instead of seeing the fallout from that scene, viewers were met with alternate programming. Many felt this could have been scheduled elsewhere. “DANG! I was so looking forward to seeing it today,” one viewer complained, while another wrote, “You have a damn news channel.” Fans repeatedly pointed out that the interruption came at the worst possible time in the storyline.
