California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, used Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s remarks about “fat generals and admirals” in the U.S. military to troll President Donald Trump.
Speaking to military leaders in Virginia on Tuesday, Hegseth said: “It’s tiring to look out at combat formations, or really any formations, and see fat troops.” Hegseth went on to target military leadership, saying, “it’s completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon and leading commands around the country and the world. It’s a bad look.”
Newsom reposted a video of Hegseth’s remarks on X with a photo of Trump removing his jacket at a McDonald’s. The California governor wrote: “I guess the Commander in Chief needs to go!”
