{KXLG – Watertown, SD} On this week’s From the Halls of City Hall our guest is Councilman Mike Danforth.
With a council meeting on Monday 3/3/25, there was a lot to discuss.
A mid-term review of the Home Rule Charter is in progress. The committee is assessing the city manager form of government established a few years ago, seeking areas for improvement in the relationship between the council, mayor, and city manager. Early feedback supports continuing the city manager system. A report is expected at the April 3rd council meeting.
For the upcoming City Manager search, Danforth emphasized prioritizing strong management and leadership skills. While experience is considered, he stressed that managerial competence and team-building abilities are key.
Proposed amendments to the Commercial Lake District (CL) zoning are under review. The original zoning had overly broad uses, leading to public concerns. The revised ordinance narrows permitted uses and addresses campground regulations. The goal is to clarify development rules and protect existing property values in the Lake Kampeska area. Citizens are encouraged to review details on the city website and attend the second reading.
Significant savings from a recent project will be strategically allocated through a capital project prioritization process, considering needs beyond just road repairs.
Danforth called for a community-wide effort to clean up litter as spring approaches, encouraging residents to take part in keeping the city looking its best.
