Freiburg’s Julian Schuster looks forward to ‘unexpected’ reunion with Michael Gregoritsch

SC Freiburg head coach Julian Schuster has commented on his pending reunion with former striker Michael Gregoritsch in Sunday’s Bundesliga match against Augsburg. The 72-times-capped Austrian international played for a number of Bundesliga clubs over the course of his long career in Germany. Freiburg served as Gregoritsch’s last stop, however. Gregoritsch spent three seasons in Breisgau before moving to Brønby this autumn.

Schuster reveals Gregoritsch has kept in touch with Freiburg

I wouldn’t have thought that we’d be in for such a quick reunion against each other,” Schuster said. “From his side, it’ll also be great to see so many familiar faces. It’s special for us too as he hasn’t been gone for long. He knows us very well. Before and after the match, there will be joy. During the match, he’s one of the opponents and we’ll be fighting against him.

We kept in touch and he’s been back here in Freiburg,” Schuster continued. “We talked a bit ahead of the [November Europa League game against Austria’s RB Salzburg]. He served a bit of a different function there. We talked about how things were going and what the future holds.
