Donald Trump’s push for Greenland has raised apprehensions over the future of FIFA World Cup 2026. The quadrennial marquee football or soccer event is set to take place in eleven cities in the United States of America between June 11 and July 19.. Mexico and Canada are the co-host of the tournament. So far, two European giants France and Germany have spoken about their participations in the multi-nations sporting event. So far, other countries concerned are keeping an eye on how far will the US President on Greenland.

France, Germany to play FIFA World Cup 2026?


The French government is not in favour of boycotting this year’s World Cup finals being co-hosted by the United States, over President Donald Trump’s Greenland threats, France’s sports minister said late Tuesday.

Trump has targeted France among the eight European countries threatened with tariffs for their opposition to his drive to annex Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark.

Senior far-left French politician, Eric Coquerel, to say the US should be stripped of co-hosting this year’s football World Cup, with Canada and Mexico the other two hosts.


The German government said Tuesday that the country’s football association should decide on any boycott of this year’s football World Cup co-hosted by the United States, over President Donald Trump’s Greenland threats.

Trump has targeted Germany among the eight European countries threatened with tariffs for their opposition to his drive to annex Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark.That has prompted some German politicians to question whether their country should participate in this year’s football World Cup.

Germany have won football world cup four times (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014). France are two-time winners having won the coveted trophy in 1998, and 2018. Brazil hold the record of lifting the trophy for the most times – five.

FIFA’s Stance So Far

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has cultivated a close relationship with Trump, even creating a special “FIFA Peace Prize” he awarded to Trump at the World Cup draw in December.
