The popular R-rated action thriller Sicario, headlined by Oscar nominee Emily Blunt, is leaving Netflix‘s content library soon. Its exit is the result of the streaming giant’s efforts to update its catalog, influenced by licensing agreements. The film was released in theaters in 2015, garnering acclaim for its acting and writing among other key elements.
Sicario to leave Netflix in May 2026
Netflix subscribers will no longer be able to stream Sicario, starring Emily Blunt, on the platform as it reportedly gets delisted on May 1, 2026. Accordingly, they have a month to check out the film before its scheduled departure. The story follows Kate Macer, an FBI special agent with strong morals, recruited to take down the leader of a powerful Mexican drug cartel.
Sicario first arrived in Cannes on May 19, 2015. It then made its way to U.S. theaters three months later on September 18. At the time of its release, it grossed $84.9 million globally. It was followed by a sequel in 2018, Day of the Soldado, which earned $75.8 million at the global box office.
The movie received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, which is reflected in its ratings on review aggregators. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts an impressive “certified fresh” score of 91 percent and a robust audience score of 85 percent. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 82 and a user score of 8.1, both of which denote “universal acclaim.”
Comparatively, Day of the Soldado holds a fresh 62% critical and a 66% audience score on RT. Elsewhere, Metacritic shows a lower Metascore of 61 and a user score of 7.0, denoting “generally favorable” reception.
Denis Villeneuve directed Sicario from a screenplay by Taylor Sheridan. Meanwhile, Basil Iwanyk, Thad and Trent Luckinbill, Edward L. McDonnell, and Molly Smith produced the feature.
In addition to Blunt as Kate Macer, Sicario stars Josh Brolin as Matt Graver and Benicio Del Toro as Alejandro. They are joined by Victor Garber, Jon Bernthal, Daniel Kaluuya, Jeffrey Donovan, and Raoul Trujillo in the film’s supporting cast.
