President Donald Trump has endorsed U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ bid for a fourth term in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, delivering her a major boost with the Republican Party’s right flank ahead of a highly competitive 2026 race.
Trump announced his endorsement in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Nov. 2, calling Miller-Meeks “an incredibly strong advocate” for Iowans in the 1st District. “A distinguished Medical Doctor and U.S. Army Veteran, Mariannette knows the America First Policies required to Defend our Country, Support our Brave Military/Veterans, and Ensure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH,” Trump wrote. “In Congress, Mariannette is working hard to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Advocate for our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Champion American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our now very Secure Border, SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. “Mariannette Miller-Meeks has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election — SHE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!” Trump concluded.
Miller-Meeks said in a statement it was an “incredible honor” to have Trump’s endorsement.
“Together, we’re leading the fight to grow an economy that benefits all workers, keep taxes low, restore American energy dominance and stand up for the men and women who keep our country strong,” Miller-Meeks said. “I’ll never stop fighting for Iowa’s families, farmers, and small businesses, and I’ll keep working with President Trump to make sure Iowa, and America’s best days are still ahead.”
Miller-Meeks survived a recount to win her 2024 race by less than 800 votes over Democrat Christine Bohannon, who is seeking to face her again in 2026. National Democrats have placed her among their top targets as they look to grab control of Congress in the midterm voting.
Political analysts with the Cook Political Report, Sabato’s Crystal Ball and Inside Elections categorize the 1st District race as a “tossup,” meaning either party has a good shot at nabbing the seat.
The 20-county 1st District encompasses the cities of Davenport, Iowa City and Indianola.
