The stars were out at PGA National’s champion course on Saturday for baseball hall of famer David Ortiz’s “Weekend with Papi” golf outing.The three-time World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox had plenty of his former teammates and other celebrities from the sports and entertainment world on hand to raise money for a great cause. The David Ortiz Children’s fund raises money to provide life saving surgeries and care for children in the Dominican Republic and throughout New England.Prior to this year’s event, the annual gathering raised nearly $14 million.”Giving back is something to me is very important,” Ortiz said.”He is such a great teammate but what he does for the community–we are saving lives,” said Ortiz’s former teammate Johnny Damon.”What he stands for I stand for. Whenever you come out, you see guys reunite with people and a man like him, the type of things he continues to do, I just want to be a part of it,” said pro football hall of famer, Ray Lewis.
