On February 28, 2026, in Brazzaville, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and the Digital Economy , Léon Juste Ibombo, received a Chinese delegation during the launch of rehabilitation works on the Congo-Ocean Railway (CFCO). The discussions focused on the integration of satellite communications and navigation systems, including the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, to support the modernization of the CFCO.
Minister Ibombo emphasized that these technologies are essential rather than a luxury for the Congo. He noted that satellite systems enable better connectivity for rural areas, optimize natural resource management, secure critical infrastructure, and link the country’s major transport corridors. “In the age of intelligent networks, a modern railway must be connected, secure, and piloted by efficient digital systems,” he stated.
The Chinese delegation proposed implementing structural pilot projects, establishing permanent technical coordination mechanisms, and strengthening the skills of Congolese professionals. These initiatives were welcomed by the Congolese government, which also committed to providing a regulatory framework conducive to innovation and investment security.
Plans for an upcoming visit to China were announced to further advance this technological partnership, signaling a new phase in the collaboration aimed at modernizing the CFCO and boosting the Congo’s digital infrastructure in transport and communications.
