Too Many Competing Details
It is not that Kate Hudson’s Valentino Spring 2026 dress is inherently bad, but the elements – drapery, pleating, the shoulder tie, asymmetrical seams and that diamond choker – are all fighting for attention. Instead of creating dimension, the details dilute the impact. Black And White, With Bite
Janelle Monáe was on hand to present Kate with her Spotlight Award, which honours actors whose careers demonstrate a deep appreciation for costume design and their contribution to storytelling through costume.
Always theatrical at these events, Janelle leaned into her love of black and white, elevated by gold metal flowers and petals embellishing her Falguni Shane Peacock blazer. The metallic appliqué injected personality into what could have been a straightforward tuxedo moment. And we all know that Janelle doesn’t do straightforward.

The First Lady Turn
If there was one person I expected theatrics from, it was Jodie Turner-Smith. Yet even in the bold blue hue of this Marc Jacobs Spring 2026 reverse collar coat dress, the mood was unexpectedly restrained. That is not a criticism. The clean lines and high neckline gave the look a diplomatic composure, and I enjoy seeing the many sides of her style. This felt like her First Lady chapter: composed and assured. Plus the jewels helped sell the look.

Katherine LaNasa wore a typically Elie Saab embellished strapless tea length gown, and she looked absolutely radiant in it. This is her sweet spot. The gold beading, the flattering silhouette and the easy confidence made this shine, Sometimes familiarity works in your favour, and this is one of those times.
