Cathay Pacific announced that its much-loved lounge at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), The Bridge, has officially reopened after a series of updates and upgrades.
Occupying a prime intersection at HKG Airport, The Bridge has been redesigned with a host of new, unique features alongside familiar favorites aimed at providing customers with an elevated experience.
The Bridge was first opened in 2013 and closed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Cathay announced that the popular lounge would be permanently closed. However, a surge in premium travel across the globe changed the airline’s plans and it embarked on a multi-year upgrade to its lounges at its hub in HKG Airport.
The reopening of The Bridge comes as the airline prepares for the renovation of The Wing, First – which will close on May 23, 2025, and reopen in 2026 – followed by The Wing, Business to ensure that its customers continue to enjoy a premium lounge experience during the renovation.
One of Cathay’s Business Class lounges, The Deck, will also be closed starting May 21, 2025, for renovations. When upgrade works are finished, it will then serve as an interim first class lounge during renovation of The Wing.
Cathay Pacific said it will be launching new flagship lounges in Hong Kong, Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and, for the first time, New York’s John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) as part of a more than HK$100 billion (US$12.8 billion) investment into new aircraft, cabin products, lounges and digital innovations.
Located near Departure Gate 35 at HKG Airport’s Terminal 1, the newly redesigned The Bridge lounge features human-centric design that brings together thoughtful propositions, design elements and material choices to create a residential ambiance. Cathay said it hopes the design will make customers feel welcomed, valued and cared for.
The Bridge will soon be the first Cathay Pacific lounge to adopt a biometric check-in system, complemented by a traditional check-in desk.
The Bridge will also inlcude the airline’s iconic Noodle Bar, where customers are served Cathay’s signature dishes and all-time favorites such as wonton and dan dan noodles, and dim sum.
The rotating menus also feature new Chinese favorites, from main dishes such as biangbiang mian to braised beef shin with cauliflower, to punchy vibrant salads and desserts.
“Our goal was to create a space that feels genuinely welcoming — one that reflects our commitment to thoughtful, human-centric design,” said Cathay Pacific’s General Manager Customer Experience Design, Guillaume Vivet.
“From the furniture and dining to the scent and music, every detail has been carefully considered to enhance comfort and contribute to a relaxed, refined atmosphere. The result is a space where customers can truly unwind – a retreat designed to enrich their journey and leave a lasting impression with every visit,” Vivet added.
