Whether you live in Toronto or out west in a small town, Canada is filled with hidden gems, vast landscapes, natural wonders and pride.
And this week, the nation was named one of the top countries to visit in the world.
On Oct. 7, Condé Nast Traveler released its readers’ choice awards for 2025, where hundreds of thousands of readers ranked their favourite destinations around the world. The global magazine and media brand was founded in 1987.
On the list of top countries across the globe, Canada ranked No. 10, ahead of places like Switzerland, Mexico, Germany, India and Thailand.
“Travellers today are craving what’s real; experiences that build compassion, spark belonging, and remind us of what we share,” says Gloria Loree, senior vice-president, marketing strategy and chief marketing officer at Destination Canada.
“Canada offers exactly that. It’s a place that welcomes you in, leaves a lasting mark, and sends you home seeing the world and one another a little differently.”
Other countries in the top 10 include Japan, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Türkiye, Ireland, Croatia and France. In total, readers cast 757,109 votes in the 28th annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey.
Canadian cities including Montreal and Vancouver also placed on the publication’s list of the top large cities in the world.
“Canada continues to deliver, whether through vibrant cityscapes like Toronto and Montreal, wild wonderlands like Banff and Yukon, or Indigenous-led experiences that honour the land and its stories,” according to Destination Ontario.
“With this recognition from Condé Nast Traveler’s U.S. readers, Canada’s place as a global leader in tourism is stronger than ever and is a true reflection of a destination where travel feels both transformative and true to its nature.”
The ranking follows Canada first overall (tied with Switzerland) placing on a Country RepTrak report, examining how citizens of G7 countries perceive the reputation of the world’s 60 largest economies.
Canada also had 11 restaurants who made the cut in the North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list by 50 Best. Toronto’s Quetzal was ranked No. 11. Also in Ontario, Lincoln’s Pearl Morissette placed third and was named the best restaurant in central Canada.
Tanière3 in Quebec City placed fifth and was given the Art of Hospitality Award.
Other spots included Alma, Beba, Le Violon, Montréal Plaza and Mon Lapin in Montreal. Vancouver’s Published on Main also made the list, along with Baan Lao in Richmond, awarded the best restaurant in west Canada.
