Calon Hearts UK heart screenings at Ledbury Rugby Club

Chris Howell, the landlord at the Oak Inn at Staplow, has issued a plea to residents of Ledbury and afar to attend a Heart Screening Day at Ledbury Football Club on Saturday, November 22, which will offer over-25s the chance to undergo a “stress-free” electrocardiogram (ECG), followed by an echocardiogram.

Mr Howell became the charity’s Herefordshire ambassador six months ago, but has known the organisation for over a decade, having previously attended functions in his home town of Cardiff.

Calon Hearts UK is a Wales-based charity which is on a mission to ensure that not only every community has access to a defibrillator, but that more people are trained in CPR, and that others have access to heart screenings, which can identify underlying conditions.

Attendees will undergo a consultation, where they will be walked through their results and given professional advice- a service the charity says should appeal not just to athletes, but also anyone looking to be more health-conscious.

The cost of the screening amounts to £299, which the charity says is a significant reduction compared to services offered by private healthcare providers, which can rack up to over £1,000.

The charity installed a defibrillator outside the pub after the team raised £2,000 by taking donations for its ‘Valentines Tree’, where customers could leave romantic messages for their loved ones.
