British bomb disposal expert killed in Ukraine

A British former tree surgeon who risked his life in Ukraine to help destroy thousands of shells, mines and booby traps, has been killed in the east of the country.

Chris Garrett, 40, a bomb disposal expert from the Isle of Man, died near the town of Izyum, which is strewn with unexploded ordinance left over from the Russian retreat in 2022.

He had travelled to Ukraine three days after the Russian invasion to help the country clear mountains of munitions and his death has sparked an investigation by the country’s authorities.
