Bob Odenkirk has responded to some rumors suggesting he was supposed to star in Wonder Man.
Marvel Television’s Wonder Man is currently available to stream on Disney+. Created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, the show stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, while Ben Kingsley reprises his MCU role as Trevor Slattery.
What did Bob Odenkirk say about Wonder Man and the MCU?
Prior to Wonder Man’s release, there were rumors circulating online that Odenkirk had been cast in the show. Some of these rumors suggested that Odenkirk was supposed to play Simon’s agent; however, whether or not there was ever any truth to this is unclear, as Odenkirk is now saying he was never up for a role in the Marvel show.
The Better Call Saul star told The Direct, “No, no, no, no, no. Wonder Man, that’s the new one, right? I saw a billboard for it. And it looked great… No, I’ve never heard that [rumor]… That sounds like fun.”
When asked if he would be interested in joining the MCU, though, Odenkirk said, “Surely I would. Yes. So many great actors do it, and they’re great people. Kevin Feige, I did speak to him once. Good guy. And I love what they’re doing, I love how hard they work at making their universe work, building it out.”
This is notable as, just a few years ago, Odenkirk told The Independent that he wasn’t interested in starring in a Marvel Studios project. He said at the time, “I always like to keep things grounded, relatable, and smaller. I don’t think I’m built for that world. I’m built for characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door.”
Whether this means there might be some sort of deal happening behind-the-scenes for Odenkirk to appear in a Marvel show or movie, or if Odenkirk really did just have a change of heart, remains to be seen.
A second season of Wonder Man is currently in the works, though a release date has not yet been set.
