Saturday is opening day for the Free Bridal Exhibit, an annual favorite.
This summer, the Franklin Historical Museum welcomes the return of the Bridal Gown Exhibit, Something Old and Something New! See gowns worn by Franklin brides in a range of fashions throughout the decades, from the late 1800s right up to the 2000s, including grandmother, mother, and daughter groupings!. Each gown carries with it a unique story, preserving the hopes and dreams of each bride on her special day for generations to come. Our 2024 exhibit features the highly requested 1946 parachute dress with the amazing 15-foot train, sown from a silk Japanese military parachute.
Carefully curated by Historic Commission Member Jan Prentice and a group of volunteers, the the Bridal Exhibit continues through Sunday, August 10 during regular museum hours, Saturdays 10 to 1 and Sundays 1 to 4. The museum is located at 80 West Central Street with ample parking and handicapped accessibility at the rear of the building. Admission is free.
Bridal Exhibit Speakers on Sunday, July 13
In
conjunction with the museum’s exhibit of bridal gowns spanning
nearly 150 years, speaker Lisa Micheels will deliver a talk and slide
show about iconic historic wedding gowns over the decades.
Micheels holds an MFA from University of Miami. She has taught
fashion and theatre based classes in the Boston area since 1989 and
is currently a member of the faculty of the School of Fashion Design
in Boston. In 1992 she launched her Very Eclectic Clothing line of
hand-painted clothing and accessories. The program starts at 1:15.
The museum is open from 1-4 and admission is free.
